Abstract

Rigid-body-spring networks with random geometry provided by a Voronoi discretization are used to investigate the fracture behavior of cement based composites. The material mesostructure is three- dimensionally modeled using a three component model: mortar matrix, aggregate inclusions, and matrix- inclusion interfaces. Model abilities to predict stress-strain responses and crack patterns are demonstrated through analyses of compact tension and uniaxial compression tests. Macro-failure of concrete is simulated by only local tension and shear fracture of particle interfacial springs at meso-scale.
