Abstract

Sakata-Mirai Footbridge has been completed for the first time in Japan using ultra high ® performance fiber reinforced concrete, brand name Ductal in October 2002. The location of this footbridge is about 3.4 km from the Japan Sea coastline therefore this footbridge has been exposed to severe corrosive en- vironment in winter. In this paper the diffusion coefficient of chloride ions and the mechanical properties were investigated form the field observation. Also the pore size distribution investigation applying the mercury in- trusion porosimetry apparatus were carried out in the laboratory. The advantage of the life cycle cost of UHPFRC structures in chloride ions attack is discussed.
