Within the context of a numerical study of concrete bridge deck deterioration, simulation of chloride diffusion, steel corrosion, and concrete cracking are investigated. Chloride diffusion and reinforc- ing steel corrosion are shown to be easily modeled through the dif- fusion model generally available in most commercial finite element codes, whereas cracking is handled by a special nonlinear fracture mechanics program.
