Abstract

Non-planar fracture in eccentrically notched beams is studied using the size effect model and a mixed-mode cohesive crack model. It is seen that the crack path is independent of specimen size and that the brittleness of the failure is not influenced by its non-planarity. The cohesive crack analysis shows that the failure occurs mainly in mode I and is independent the mode II fracture energy.
