AB - The present study is an attempt to understand the relationship between G and Gf from size effect methods. The GF increases with an increase in the compressive strength and also with an increase in the notch- depth ratio, while Gf decreases slightly with an increase in compressive strength. Therefore the relationship between the fracture energy measured by the work of fracture method, GF and by the size effect method (Gf ) is not constant but is influenced by the compressive strength.
