Abstract

This paper presents some results on size effect of concrete beams using statistical nonlinear fracture mechanics analysis. Computer simulation of concrete failure is represented by the program SBETA/ATENA. The fracture of concrete is modeled by the crack band theory based on fracture energy- related softening. Statistical variability of material parameters is introduced in a simple form of small-sample Monte Carlo simulation Latin hypercube sampling. The approach is demonstrated on bending failure of plain concrete beams. Numerical examples are focused on comparison of both deterministic and probabilistic simulation results with experimental data on modulus of rupture.
