Abstract

This study explores the use of information contained in post-peak unload-reload cycles to improve the accuracy of the two-parameter data reduction method. Laboratory and simulated experiments have been used to determine that a size-independent fracture toughness can not, in general, be identified from laboratory tests even with the additional information. Yet, the results of this study indicate that the fracture toughness value obtained might still be useful in predicting crack growth in unreinforced concrete members within twice the size of the test specimen.
